Christianity in its purest form is following Jesus Christ.
It is following His teaching and realizing that He was The Messiah
as foretold by the prophets.
Christianity is much more than religion -in fact, it is the opposite of religion which is man's striving towards God. No matter how many good deeds nor how moral a life we try to live, our sin nature remains.
Only through accepting that Jesus paid for our sins on the cross can we experience rebirth with a new nature due to God's Holy Spirit dwelling within us. We receive the assurance that our sins are forgiven -that we can stand before Almighty God as righteous. We have true inner peace not dependent upon circumstance, as well as knowledge and power. We will receive rewards in heaven -not because we earned our way there -but because we were faithful on earth to Jesus Christ.
". . . Narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." -Jesus Christ (Matthew 7:14)
Despite the wonderful provision of being a Christian, for many it is too great a challenge. They are too intellectual and quickly dismiss notions of God or a life hereafter -despite the overwhelming evidence had they truly investigated. Or they grew up in religion and are comfortable with ritual -without thinking or experiencing the life, God has to offer. It is all too easy to dismiss Christianity because of the bad press of fallen men -those who claimed to be of God but were really of the devil, "wolves in sheep's clothing as Jesus described them. False prophets. Then there is the incredible spiritual warfare that keeps souls from being saved. We all know the very real power of temptation. The devil uses every trick possible to keep us from God. Then there is pride -we simply think we can get to heaven on our own merit. It is placing our will above God's. The foolishness of stating "If God doesn't want me, He doesn't have to take me!" When really God wants you so badly that it cost Him His son's life. We use His name as a swear word not even realizing that He holds our very life in His hands!
"What profit a person if he gains the whole world but loses his soul?"
Jesus asked this question and it is one that should make us stop and think. There could be nothing worse than to learn you have lived your life in vain. Nothing worse than to hear the Judgment pronounced: "I do not know you. Depart from Me, you worker of iniquity." Eternity is forever and to realize you missed heaven -and received hell -there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. There is no second chance at the white throne of God. We get what we deserve -and we will make good our confession when God pushes the video play button on our lives.
Almost every Christian believer has had to struggle to overcome obstacles that would keep them from belief, yet they will tell you God and Jesus are real! It is only through that step of faith of asking Jesus Christ into your life that things will change.
It did for me. And it will for you.
"Draw near to God and He will draw near to you." -James 4:8
